How Joe Paulsen’s Leadership Style Made a Lasting Impact at BMSS
Brad Brown is a partner at BMSS LLC, a CPA firm that already runs EOS deeply enough to have an implementer on staff. When he heard about the Great Boss Workshop led by Joe Paulsen, his curiosity was piqued. Not because EOS was new, but because Joe’s approach promised something different.
In this testimonial, Brad shares why Joe’s calm, even-keeled leadership style stood out, how the workshop format kept him fully engaged, and why the experience delivered both professional and personal takeaways.
What follows is Brad’s perspective, in his own words, on Joe’s facilitation, teaching style, and the value he brought to leaders across industries.

I’m Brad Brown. I work for BMSS LLC. We’re a CPA firm, and I’m a partner here.
We’ve loved EOS. We actually have an EOS implementer on staff. When we heard about the Great Boss Workshop, it piqued our interest because, like I said, we love EOS so much. So I was kind of the guinea pig to say, “Hey, let’s try it out.”
I thoroughly enjoyed Joe’s leadership style. I really enjoyed Joe. I thought he was great. He was very calm, very even keel, which matches my personality, so I appreciated that.
The structure was great, and I really appreciated the opportunity to have the group time. Let Joe lead some overall teaching points on each of the sections, then break up into small groups and share personal experiences, aha moments, what you’ve learned, and then come back as a group and collectively share. It kept me engaged the whole time. I thought the format was great.

One of the benefits of the virtual course was having people from all over the country. Getting additional perspectives from all over the country, all different kinds of firms and companies and sizes. I thought that was great.
Some folks may look at this and think, “I don’t have time for a workshop, especially one that’s going to take most of a day.” You just have to put that thought away. You’ve got to have those times where you take clarity breaks, and this can be one of those times to sit back and work on the business, not in the business, and work on yourself too.

I had personal takeaways just as much as I had takeaways for me as a person in business. I was kind of trying it out to see if it was something we wanted to roll out more broadly here at our office, and my feedback immediately afterwards was this is an A+ program. We definitely need to roll this out to more folks and get more people taking it.
Everything I wanted to get out of it, I did, and I want to pay it forward to other folks in the firm. If you’ve ever dabbled in EOS, or even if you’ve been doing it for years, it was a great program.
